In order to educate citizens on waste reduction at the source, develop good consumption habits, and extend the life cycle of items that would otherwise become waste without turning them into waste, the “Generous Day” event was organized on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 11:00 to 17:00 in 9 districts of the capital city under the slogan “Let’s give away the things we don’t use to someone in need.”

During the event, employees of departments, agencies, and districts under the capital city and citizens of the capital city brought books, magazines, household appliances, items, souvenirs, jewelry, clothes, shoes, bags, etc. that they had been keeping at home without using, donated them to those in need, sold them at low prices, and exchanged them for things they needed. According to preliminary results from the districts, more than 10 thousand people participated in the district event. The event is regularly organized internationally, and this is the first time that it is being held on a large scale not only in the capital but also in Mongolia.

The citizens enjoyed the event and expressed their feelings by saying that they found what they needed at very low prices, got it for free, exchanged it, etc. They also asked the organizers of each district to organize this event again and to organize it regularly in the future, according to the Office of the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar.
